September 2, 2021

Greek cable manufacturer Hellenic Cables has bagged a cable contract from Swedish power company Vattenfall for the Vesterhav Syd and Nord offshore wind farms in Denmark. Hellenic Cables will be responsible for the design, manufacture, testing, and supply of approximately 70 km, 66 kV cross-linked polyethylene cable (XLPE), insulated, inter-array cables and associated accessories for the wind farms. The production of cables for both projects will commence in the summer of 2022 at Hellenic Cables’ submarine cable production facility in Corinth, Greece with delivery scheduled for the first quarter of 2023.

The Vesterhav Nord wind farm will have an installed capacity of 180 MW, consisting of 21 SG 8.0-167 DD turbines, each with a rated power of 8.4 MW, whereas Vesterhav Syd, with a capacity of 170 MW, will comprise 20 turbines. Collectively, the wind farms will increase Danish electricity production from wind turbines by approximately 10 per cent, and supply electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of 350,000 Danish households.
