USFS releases final RoD for TWE transmission project [free access]

June 5, 2017

The US Forest Service (USFS) has released its final record of decision (RoD) for the TransWest Express (TWE) Transmission Project.

The TWE is part of a series of transmission lines that will move energy produced in Wyoming (including energy produced by Power Company of Wyoming’s Chokecherry/Sierra Madre wind farm) to market states in Southwest US. The project includes construction of a 725-mile (1,167-km), ±600 kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) overhead double-circuit transmission line to deliver renewable energy from wind energy projects near Rawlins in Wyoming to Colorado, Utah and Nevada. The line, after connection with a substation located south of Las Vegas, Nevada, interconnects with the power network of California Independent System Operator (CAISO) to deliver power in California.

The route of the project extends from south-central Wyoming, to the site of a potential interconnection near Delta, Utah, and then to the Marketplace Hub near Hoover Dam in southern Nevada, which provides interconnections to the California, Nevada and Arizona grids.
