Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) has approved the Cardinal–Hickory Creek transmission line project, being jointly developed by American Transmission Company (ATC), ITC Midwest LLC, and Dairyland Power Cooperative (DPC).

Great River Energy and Form Energy sign contract for energy storage project

Massachusetts-based Form Energy, a company developing energy storage for the grid, signed a contract with Minnesota-based utility, Great River Energy, to jointly deploy a 1 MW/150 MWh pilot project to be located in Cambridge, Minnesota.

New York PSC reviews power grid modernisation plans [free access]

The New York Public Service Commission (PSC) has issued an order on May 14, initiating a proceeding to review power grid modernisation plans as a part of the state’s Renewable Energy Growth Act (REGA). An initial report of the findings and recommendations of the review is to be submitted by December 31, 2020.

Iberdrola subsidiary awards EUR80 million contract to Prysmian for Saint Brieuc offshore wind farm

Ailes Marines (a simplified joint stock company, held at 100 per cent by Spanish electric utility company Iberdrola) in charge of the development, construction, installation and operation of the French Saint Brieuc offshore wind farm, has awarded the Italian cable company, Prysmian Group, a EUR80 million contract to provide submarine inter-array cable systems for the offshore wind farm.

Greek ADMIE awards major HVDC cable contracts for Crete–Attica link [free access]

The Greek Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO), Anexartitos Diacheiristis MetaforasIlektrikis Energeias’ (ADMIE) subsidiary—Ariadne Interconnection—has awarded three separate contracts to the Italian cable company Prysmian Group, French copper optical fibre cable manufacturer Nexans, and the Danish NKT.

Baltic TSOs submit application for CEF funding for grid synchronisation project

The three transmission system operators (TSOs) from the Baltic States—Estonia’s Elering, Latvia’s Augstsprieguma Tikls (AST) and Lithuania’s Litgrid—along with Poland’s TSO, Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), have submitted a joint application to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for financial support towards the second and final stage for the Baltic grid synchronisation project.

Romanian Transelectrica issues RON230 million tender for 400 kV line

The Romanian national power grid operator, Transelectrica SA, has issued a tender for the construction of the 400 kV Gutinaș–Smârdan double-circuit line, its connection to the 400 kV Gutinaș and Smârdan end substations, and extension of the Gutinaș substation.

Madagascar receives EUR4 million support from AfDB for 205 MW Sahofika HPP

The African Development Fund (AfDB) has approved a EUR4.02 million loan for financing Madagascar’s EUR30 million, 205 MW Sahofika hydropower project (HPP), which entails construction of the HPP on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis and a 75 km, 220 kV associated transmission line, with 110 km of access roads.

ECOWAS targets to complete USD567 million 330 kV North Core Project by 2023

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member countries, through the West African Power Pool (WAPP), have targeted to complete the 330 kV North Dorsal Project or the North Core Project, which will connect the grids of Nigeria, Niger, Togo-Benin and Burkina Faso, by 2023.
