Maine PUC approves New England Clean Energy Connect project [free access]

The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC), as recently recommended by its staff, has granted approval to the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) project, being developed by Central Maine Power (CMP)—a subsidiary of Avangrid, to connect the New England grid with Canadian Hydro-Québec’s network.

SunZia Transmission LLC [owned by SouthWestern Power Group LLC (80 per cent); Tucson Electric Power (1 per cent); Shell Wind Energy (5 per cent); Salt River Project (13 per cent); and Tri-State Generation and Transmission (1 per cent)], will host a public meeting on April 24 in Oracle, Arizona, to discuss the proposed route realignment of the SunZia Southwest Transmission Project, as well as to provide an opportunity for public comment.

(UIRAPURU), a transmission special purpose entity (SPE) of state-owned power company Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. (Eletrobras), by Copel Geração e Transmissão S.A. (Cope GeT).

Colombian UPME reopens bid for 110 kV La Marina substation and associated line project

Colombian mining and energy planning unit Unidad de Planeación Minero Energética (UPME) has reopened its UPME STR 03-2018 tender, after declaring it void in October 2018. The tender was issued in March 2018 to select an investor and an auditor for the design, procurement of supplies, construction, and operation and maintenance of the 110 kV La Marina substation (operating initially at 66 kV) and associated transmission lines in the city of Cartagena, Bolívar.

Italian Terna acquires concessions from Construtora Quebec in Brazil [free access]

Italian grid developer Terna, through its subsidiary Terna Plus—a Group company responsible for the development of international operations—signed a contract with Construtora Quebec, a company in the energy sector in Brazil, with the objective to acquire majority control of two concessions to build and operate a total of 350 km of electricity infrastructure in Brazil.
