Enel signs battery storage agreement with Canadian Algoma Orchards

Enel X, the advanced energy services division of Italy’s power group Enel through its US subsidiary EnerNOC, has signed an agreement with Ontario’s wholesale and retail apple orchard Algoma Orchards for the installation of a 1 MWh lithium-ion battery storage system.

Canadian Hydro One and US’ Avista receive antitrust clearance for their merger

Toronto-based Hydro One Limited (Hydro One) and Washington-based Avista Corporation have received the antitrust clearance for their proposed merger, owing to the expiration of the 30-day waiting period under the US Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, thus, satisfying a closing condition of the impending transaction.

Wisconsin lawmakers oppose Cardinal–Hickory Creek transmission line project

Spanish Iberdrola to invest BRL524 million in Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia

Reportedly, Spanish utility Iberdrola has planned to invest in the Brazilian electricity sector. The company, along with its partners Caixa de Previdência dos Funcionários do Banco do Brasil (Previ) and BB Banco de Investimentos (Banco do Brasil), plans to increase its share capital in Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia.

Brazilian CMSE issues update on grid expansion

As per the Brazilian electricity sector monitoring committee Comitê de Monitoramento do Setor Elétrico (CMSE), a total of 1,366 MW of installed generation capacity, 1,366 km of transmission line length and 4,431 MVA transformer capacity were added in the power network of the country during first three months of 2018.

WindEurope, formerly the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), has announced that Polish transmission system operator (TSO) Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) S.A. is capable of connecting 4 GW of offshore wind power capacity to its power grid by 2026-27 and up to 8 GW in the longer term.
