In March 2015, Chile-based Eléctrica Puntilla S.A formed a joint venture (JV) with Brazil’s Sistema de Transmissao Catarinense (STC) to build and operate a transmission line for its 137 MW Nuble run-of-the-river project in Biobio region.

As per the estimates of the project developer, Chile currently does not have sufficient high voltage line capacity to connect solar power projects to the Sistema Interconectado Central (SIC) or the central interconnected grid.

Interchile proposed the project to cater to the upcoming renewable energy projects in Chile. There are a huge number of renewable energy projects, mainly solar-based, with a total capacity of 900 MW, which are at various stages of development in the region and could be potential users of the line.

The project aims to serve the city of Medellín in Colombia's central western Antioquia department and includes building transmission lines between the Medellín suburbs of Bello, Guayabal and Ancón Sur.

The project is being implemented by Guyana Power and Light Incorporation (GPL). The project aims to integrate major load centres along the coast, and supply the power generated by the large oil-fired generating plants in Demerara and Berbice to load centres.
