The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD100 million loan for constructing a high-voltage transmission line between Bangladesh and India to facilitate electricity trade.
The interconnection project involves construction of a 400 kV line connecting Bheramara in Bangladesh with Baharampur in India. The line will facilitate the export of electricity from India to Bangladesh, which is experiencing severe electricity shortages.
ADB’s proposed loan will finance the transmission and substation components of the project, which is to be implemented by the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).
