Qinghai–Henan UHV DC project operationalised [free access]

July 1, 2020

China’s largest grid developer, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), has operationalised the ±800 kV Qinghai–Henan power line.

The ultra-high voltage (UHV), direct current (DC) project starts in the Hainan Tibetan autonomous prefecture and ends in Zhumadian city. The CNY22.6 billion, 1,587-km line extends across four provinces, from northwest China's Qinghai, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces to central China's Henan Province. The power line will have a rated transmission capacity of 8 GW, with an annual transmission capacity of about 40 TWh.

Earlier, in 2018, the governments of China's Henan, Qinghai and Gansu provinces had signed a cooperation agreement with the SGCC for construction of the power line, with expected completion in 2020.
