December 16, 2019

The Italian Prysmian Group has secured over EUR100 million contracts from the Spanish and Italian transmission system operators (TSOs)—Red Eléctrica de España (REE) and Terna, through its subsidiary Terna Rete Italia S.p.A, respectively.

Under the first contract, Prysmian has secured a EUR27 million turnkey contract from REE to connect the two Canary Islands—Playa Blanca on Lanzarote island and La Oliva on Fuerteventura island. It involves the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 132 kV high voltage alternating current (HVAC), three-core submarine and land power cable system with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. The turnkey project linking the two islands will include a 14 km submarine route and an underground route of around 2 km. The delivery and commissioning of the project are scheduled for 2021.

Under the second contract, Prysmian has signed two power cable system agreements with the Italian TSO. Under the first contract, worth EUR50 million (inclusive of the safety costs), Prysmian will be responsible for the development of 150 kV HVAC cable link between Zuel and Somprade. The installation works on the latter are scheduled to be completed by 2020. While, under the second contract, a EUR26 million (with an option for an additional EUR26 million) framework agreement was signed for the development of 150 kV cable system, which seeks to improve the performance and augment the reliability of the Southern Italian transmission system.
