Swedish TSO awards USD65 million contract to Linxon [free access]

October 7, 2019

Linxon, a joint venture (JV) between Swedish-Swiss Company ABB and Canadian engineering services company SNC-Lavalin, has bagged a USD65 million contract from the Swedish transmission system operator (TSO), Svenska Kraftnät (SvK), for upgradation of the 400 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation in Stockholm.

The substation, located in the southern exit of a new cable tunnel close to Hammarby Sjöstad, is planned for operationalisation in mid-2022. It will also connect the cables from Anneberg, the new substation at Snösätra (Högdalen), and feed the existing 220 kV Skanstull substation.

The contract is associated with the Stockholms Ström project, which aims to significantly modernise Stockholm’s electricity network. Under the latter, the city will see the implementation of over 50 projects over the next 20 years. Some of these include a new cable tunnel under the city, voltage upgrade, and replacement of old substations.
