IndiGrid eyes transmissions assets worth INR80 billion in India [free access]

August 20, 2019

India’s leading infrastructure investment trust (InvIT), India Grid Trust (IndiGrid)—owned by Sterlite Power Transmission Limited (SPTL), is looking to buy power transmission assets in 10 states, valued at INR80 billion.

Reportedly, the trust plans to buy this in the next two years, which would include framework agreement assets. Moreover, with the surge expected in the electricity demand in the coming decade, the country’s transmission system will require expansion. To achieve this, there’s a need for capital infusion. On these tangents, IndiGrid is looking at opportunities in the transmission network connected to renewable energy projects, which are estimated to be INR420 billion in the next 2-3 years.

Recently, in July 2019, IndiGrid completed the acquisition of two power transmission assets — Northern Region System Strengthening Scheme (NRSS)-XXIX Transmission Limited (NTL) and Odisha Generation Phase II Transmission Limited (OGPTL), from SPTL valued at INR50.25 billion.
