Project Update

Quevedo–San Gregorio–San Juan de Manta Project, Ecuador [free access]

Developer: Transelectric, a business unit of Ecuador's state-owned power company La Empresa Pública Estratégica Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP)

 

Project details and status: The project aims to serve power consumers in the Manabí region. It entailed the expansion and modernisation of the Quevedo substation; construction of the 230 kV, 40.5-km San Gregorio–San Juan de Manta line and the 230/69 kV, 225 MVA San Juan de Manta substation; and extension of the patio at the 230 kV San Gregorio substation.

 

In June 2017, Transelectric awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the transmission project to China-based Xian Electric Engineering Company Limited for USD32 million.

 

The project cost an estimated USD40.7 million to CELEC EP, of which investments of USD31.9 million were financed by Inter-American Development Bank (IaDB).

 

In February 2019, Transelectric concluded the 230 kV project.
