January 24, 2019

Chilean national power grid coordinator Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional (CEN) has issued its proposal for the expansion of the country’s electric transmission system for the year 2019, comprising 47 projects involving an investment of around USD210.6 million. It includes four projects for the development of the national transmission system (worth USD66.4 million) and 43 projects as zonal transmission initiatives (worth USD144.2 million).

At the national level, transmission projects have been proposed mainly for the upcoming generation projects, especially renewable-energy based ones, in the provinces of Huasco, Elqui, Biobío and Llanquihue (Puerto Montt). For the zonal transmission network, new substation projects, and line and substation expansion projects have been proposed, mainly in the regions of Atacama and Los Lagos.

Now, the Chilean national energy commission Comisión Nacional de Energía (CNE) will invite project proposals from the companies for the same, and issue its Preliminary Technical Report during the second semester of 2019.
