December 11, 2018

Ukraine’s transmission system operator (TSO) Ukrenergo, along with its Moldovan counterpart Moldelectrica, has signed an exploitation agreement to create a regulatory block within the energy systems of both countries.

As reported, the agreement contains general technological aspects, and provisions and technical conditions of parallel operation of the energy systems of the two countries for full compliance with requirements and rules of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).

The agreement also contains future provisions for synchronised operation with the energy system of the continental Europe ENTSO-E. For regulating the frequency and capacity within the energy systems of the two countries, all necessary technological conditions to comply with European rules and standards are mentioned. In addition, the companies agreed on quarterly monitoring of execution of the agreement.

Earlier, in December 2017, the two TSOs had agreed to a plan for synchronising the Ukrainian and Moldovan power grids with the ENTSO-E, while in June 2017 Ukrenergo had signed an agreement outlining the conditions for connecting the Ukrainian power grid to the ENTSO-E.
