August 1, 2018

Paraguay’s state-owned power company Administración Nacional de Electricidad (ANDE) has inaugurated the 220/23 kV Vaquería substation in the district of Vaquería, department of Caaguazú. The substation will benefit consumers of the departments of Caaguazú, Alto Paraná and Canindeyú.

The USD4.7 million project has been financed by the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) or the Latin American Development Bank and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries’ (OPEC) Fund for International Development (OFID).

It included the construction of the control house, and supply and installation of a 220/23 kV transformer with 41.67 MVA capacity with seven 23 kV feeders at the Vaquería substation. The construction or installation contract of the project was awarded to Tecno Eléctric SA in 2015 through competitive bidding.

In a separate development, Tecno Eléctric SA has also completed a 66 kV project of ANDE with an investment of USD12.6 million. Under this, it has constructed a new 66/23 kV Mburucuyá substation, and a 66 kV Port Botánico–Mburucuyá line, along with installation of three 66/23 kV transformers of 30 MVA capacity each.
