Badger Coulee project construction on schedule [free access]

July 2, 2018

According to WPPI Energy, the construction works of the Badger Coulee project is progressing as per schedule and under budget, to meet its completion deadline of end-2018. WPPI Energy is a direct investor in the project, which is being developed by American Transmission Company (ATC) and Xcel Energy.

The USD580 million project involves the construction of a new 180-mile (290-km), 345 kV transmission line from north of the La Crosse area to northern Dane County, which will connect to the new CapX2020 line that runs across Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

As reported by WPPI Energy, the construction works, which started in 2016, achieved significant progress during 2017. WPPI owns about 1.5 per cent of the portion of the line between the Briggs Road and North Madison substations, along with Dairyland Power Cooperative and Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency, Wisconsin.

Recently, in June 2018, the developers also received approvals for the construction of the project in La Crosse County, from the Wisconsin Court of Appeals.
