EBRD to lend EUR20.1 million to Bosnian TSO [free access]

May 7, 2018

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is planning to provide a corporate loan of up to EUR20.1 million to Bosnia's power transmission system operator (TSO) Elektroprijenos BiH, for the modernisation and upgradation of the telecommunications system of the company.

The project is critical to the ongoing process of regional market integration and will lead to improvements in cross-border trade and allocation of power transmission capacity. This will be achieved through the improved ability to manage the transmission network that the modernised and upgraded telecommunications system will deliver.

According to EBRD, the state-of-the-art telecommunications system will significantly improve the country’s power system reliability and stability, and will be the first important step towards the full implementation of a smart grid in the country, leading to ultimately a reduction of losses and hence carbon emissions.

As reported, tendering for the consultancy services is expected to begin during Q3 2018 and for other components during 2019.
