ISA commissions 220 kV project in Colombia [free access]

February 8, 2018

Colombian grid network developer Interconexion Eléctrica S.A. (ISA) has commissioned the 220 kV Caracolí substation project in the Department of Atlántico, Colombia.

The project entailed construction of the 220 kV Caracolí (Soledad) substation and two associated transmission lines—220 kV Flores–Caracolí (Soledad) and Caracolí (Soledad)–Sabanalarga, aggregating 53 km.

The project will reinforce power supply in the Caribbean–Atlantic area, including its capital and nearby municipalities such as Soledad and Malambo. It will also improve the reliability of the Colombian Sistema Interconectado Nacional (SIN) or the National Interconnected System.

ISA won the project in 2014, after submitting a winning bid of USD61.3 million as expected annual income for the project, thereby outbidding Energia de Bogota S.A. E.S.P. (EEB).
