China’s SGCC commences operation on 800 kV UHV project [free access]

January 2, 2018

State-owned Chinese transmission system operator State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) has commenced operations on the CNY22.1 billion, ±800 kV Jarud–Qingzhou ultra-high voltage direct current (UHV DC) transmission line in China. It involved the construction of 1,228 km of UHV DC line connecting Jarud village in Inner Mongolia to Qingzhou in eastern Shandong province.

The project is the first UHV DC project in Inner Mongolia and will link the power grid in Northeast China with load centres in Shandong. It will supply surplus electricity directly to a load centre in Qingzhou to boost wind power consumption across nearby regions.

Construction work on the project commenced in August 2016.
