ISO New England approves MPX Project [free access]

Independent System Operator of New England (ISO New England) has approved the Maine Power Express (MPX) project proposed by Maine Power Express, LLC (comprising a group of energy developers) and Con Edison Transmission, Inc.


The developers submitted the proposal of the project in response to the request for proposal (RfP) issued by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER). The Massachusetts Clean Energy RfP was drafted last year in response to the State’s 2016 Energy Bill, which requires that the utilities procure around 9,450,000 MWh of wind, solar, hydro or energy storage to meet Massachusetts’ clean energy goals.


The MPX project includes a proposed 1,040 MW, ±320 kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line to be buried completely underground in an existing energy corridor, and underwater, direct to Boston, Massachusetts.
