July 18, 2017

China CAMC Engineering Company Limited (CAMCE) has signed a USD131 million contract with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Kenya for a power transmission and transformation project to be located in central and northern regions of Kenya.

CAMCE will build a 285-km-long, 220 kV transmission line linking the counties of Isiolo and Garissa, along with three associated substations. Expected to be completed within 24 months, the line is a part of a larger project proposed to connect Lamu, Garissa, Isiolo, Baringo and Lodwar under the LAPSSET (Lamu Port, Southern Sudan and Ethiopia Transport) corridor programme. The latter intends to provide transport and logistics infrastructure aimed at creating seamless connectivity between the Eastern African countries of Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
