Ireland’s Eirgrid invites bids for marine survey for 400 kV project [free access]

May 5, 2017

Ireland’s transmission system developer Eirgrid has invited bids for undertaking estuarine geophysical, geotechnical and benthic marine surveys in the Shannon Estuary between Money Point in Clare County and Kilpaddoge in Kerry County. The approximate length of the estuary crossings, which are the subject of this survey, is 3 km.

The survey will help Eirgrid in its planned system reinforcement project aimed at integrating high levels of renewable energy into the high voltage grid. As part of its system reinforcement project, Eirgrid will undertake development of the 400 kV Moneypoint–Kilpaddoge line; installation of an additional 400 kV Shannon cross-cable between the existing substations at Moneypoint and Kilpaddoge; and installation of a new 400/220 kV transformer at Kilpaddoge substation.

These surveys will be conducted during September to November 2017. The last date for bid submission is scheduled for May 11, 2017, while the total value of the contract is estimated at EUR500,000.
