China XD to supply equipment for SGCC’s UHVDC project [free access]

October 16, 2012

Electrical equipment maker China XD Electric Company Limited has been selected by SGCC to supply equipment for the Hami-Zhengzhou ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) power transmission project.

Under the CNY2.06 billion contract, XD Electric’s six subsidiaries will supply AC equipment including converter transformers, converter valves, gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and disconnecting switches. The delivery of equipment would start from February 2013 and will be completed by end-March 2014.

The ±800 kV UHVDC project begins from the Hami converter station in Xinjiang and ends at the Zhengzhou converter station in Henan, crossing through Xinjiang, Gansu, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Shanxi and Henan provinces. The 2,210.2 km line has a rated transmission capacity of 8 GW. The project will help fully exploit the rich coal and wind power resources in Hami, transform Xinjiang’s resource advantages into concrete economic advantages and meet the increasing power demand of Henan.

The project’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) was approved by the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection in April 2012.
